BAR - The British Association of Removers. Has been in existence since 1900 and is the oldest Trade Association for the Removal Industry. Representing over 600 of the UK’s leading professional removal and storage companies all of which are covered by the OFT Approved BAR Code of Practice.

OFT LogoThe Office of Fair Trading (OFT) approved a new Code of Practice for all 650 members of the British Association of Removers (BAR) in February 2008. The Code is the only one of its kind for the UK removals industry and provides the public with a guaranteed high quality of service and financial protection when moving house.

The GUILD - The National Guild of Removers and Storers. Members are based throughout the U.K and are annually vetted to represent quality and professionalism and are bound by The Guilds Code of Practice. All National Guild members are also accredited to the Register of Approved Removers and Storers. There is a thorough annual inspection after which a report is issued. This is given to each customer as part of the survey / quotation process.

The Removal Ombudsman Scheme. Provides the Removal Industry with an independent service to resolve disputes between member companies and their clients, both domestic consumers and commercial organisations, if the normal complaints procedure has not produced a satisfactory conclusion. The Scheme is managed by an independent Committee, and it has appointed an Ombudsman, who has no connection with any removal business. Complaints are investigated free of charge but only after all efforts to conciliate by the trade association has been exhausted.

British Standard Quality Assured - BS EN 12522. Formed in 1901 by royal charter, BSI is an organisation created to help British industry compete in European and international trade markets.

Companies that are recognised as having achieved the specified Quality Standard and are directly aimed at furniture removals for the benefit of the private individual. Certified companies operate to clearly defined standards. Their procedures are designed to benefit the customer at every stage of the move. All certified removal companies are assessed annually on services, staff, administration & procedures to ensure they continue to meet the high and exacting standards required.

R.H.A. - The Road Haulage Association. Provide advice, information, safety issues, business services all tailored for the haulage industry. R.H.A keep their members updated on new European and local Government changes and regulations. Even though the R.H.A does not provide a complains procedure, they will get involved if the complaint relates to vehicle maintenance and procedures.

FEDEMAC - Federation of European Moving Associations. Provides an umbrella organisation which co-ordinate the efforts of national associations at a European level. They represent the interests of nearly 5,000 professional companies in 12 European Countries. Much of this work is centred around lobbying at the EU Parliament and Commission as well as liaising with other Trade organisations and official representatives.

FIDI - The International Federation of International Movers 750 moving companies are affiliated with the FIDI and the forum focuses on the intercontinental movement of household effects. All members are required to receive shipments from another FIDI agent, so quality of service is accured. FIDI also carries out programs and studies designed to help promote affiliates' competitiveness within the international moving and storage marketplace.

SSA - The Self Storage Association of UK and Europe. Managed by a committee of unpaid directors they represent the interests not only of large multi-site operators but also single site. All members have to abide by guidelines i.e. providing customers with a safe, efficient and clean facility, fairprices, health and safety for customers etc. Also a founder member of the Federation of European Self Storage Associations (FEDESSA), which brings it in close contact with other European associations and their members as well as other operators in Europe.
